About
Janene Farmer is an artist and educator who teaches in Coronado but lives in San Diego, California.
"As a child, I was always interested in the interaction of nature and the fragility of life. In searching the wild places of nature for inspiration I find beauty, truth, and faith."
As an artist, Janene paints rare and endangered animals from around the world. The theme of her artwork voices concern with preserving our delicate planet earth for future generations of children.
As an educator, Janene teaches classes and private lessons. Teaching for the Ramona Unified School District and the University of California, San Diego, she taught classes linking the arts to academics. Janene served as an arts curriculum writer for Ramona Unified and was awarded mentor teacher fellowships for 1994 through '95, 1995 through '96, and 1997 through '98 school terms.
Janene wrote and designed "The Artist: A Reflection of Our Environment", a teacher's workbook of art and science lessons to use as a resource in creating classroom lessons for students.
The California Arts Council awarded Janene a grant in 1982, to serve as a resident artist at the University of California, San Diego. In 1983, she received a graduate fellowship at the University of San Diego in education. The California Department of Fish and Game awarded Janene an honorable mention in 1995, for her work as a wildlife artist. The Center for the Arts in Escondido, California presented Janene with the Arts Education Achievement Award in 1997, supporting artists working in schools. In 2012, the Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation honored Janene with an Artist Outreach grant to teach art to elementary, middle, and high school students at the North University Community Library.
"In my heart nature and art have always been the focus of my life. As an adult, I strive to peel away the layers of daily superficiality and find the core of feelings through the love of life, nature, and its beautiful creatures. It is through my art that I connect with the requisite and find beauty and hope for our delicate planet Earth."
Janene continues to paint and teach, inspiring and encouraging students in the creation of their work in the arts.
